Dobbie’s Epic Night Headlines Week Three
There isn’t much in the sport of lacrosse that Dane Dobbie has not accomplished, but Saturday night was an epic footnote in an already epic career. Trailing 9-5 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Dobbie scored all 7 Roughneck goals in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
Then in the extra session, he set a great up pick, took the pass from longtime running-mate Curtis Dickson and finished his eighth goal of the night to win the game for the Roughnecks.
Dobbie became just the second player ever to have 7 or more goals without and assist (Casey Jackson did it last season for the Vegas Desert Dogs), and improbably led the Roughnecks in scoring without having a point in the first three quarters.
But there were some other great matchups as well, let’s get right into it.
San Diego Seals 14 – Colorado Mammoth 11
The Mammoth took their first loss of the season at Pechanga arena, as the Seals rebounded from their OT loss against the Swarm. Offseason fears about the Seals offence have proven to be foolish, as the Seals currently sit fourth in the league in Goals Per Game.
Wes Berg led all scorers in the game with 4 goals and 3 assists, while Kyle Jackson made his season debut and had a hat trick for the Seals. Connor Robinson had 3 goals and 3 assists to lead the Mammoth, while Zed Williams, Connor Kelly, and Will Malcom had two goals each.
Stat of the Game: Trevor Baptiste made his return to the lineup going 16/16 at the stripe, helping contribute to the possession advantage for Seals.

Vancouver Warriors 10 – Rochester Knighthawks 7
In front of almost 10,000 fans, the Warriors secured their first win in their home opener. The defence was stout in front of goaltender Aden Walsh, notably holding the potent Rochester left-side off the score sheet.
Keegan Bal led the scoring for the Warriors with a hat trick while Ryan Martel had 4 assists. But the story was the defensive scoring for the Warriors. After Owen Grant had 3 goals in week one, the Warriors got another from Grant in this one, two from Jeff Cornwall, and one from Reid Bowering.
Ryan Smith and Ryan Lanchbury had hat tricks each to lead the Knighthawks.
Stat of the Game: Keegan Bal led all players in the game with 12 loose balls, a great sign for the Warriors.

Buffalo Bandits 18 – Ottawa Black Bears 7
The Bandits look energized and ready to defend their title, finishing off their second straight dominant victory to open the season.
Asked to come out of the offensive door this year, Ian MacKay had a career high 5 goals for the Bandits. Josh Byrne (2 goals, 8 assists) and Dhane Smith (2 goals, 7 assists) led the scoring for Buffalo.
Jeff Teat had 3 goals and 2 assists for the Black Bears, while Jacob Dunbar had 2 goals to continue his strong start.
Stat of the Game: MacKay had 12 goals last year and his career high is 19. With 6 in the first two games, he looks to be on pace to shatter those previous highs.

Saskatchewan Rush 9 – Halifax Thunderbirds 8
Two games, two overtime wins for the Rush. Zach Manns was the hero on Saturday, scoring his sixth goal of the game to push the Rush to victory.
Manns led all scorers with 8 points in the contest, while rookie Levi Anderson scored the first goal of his career.
Dawson Theede led the scoring for Halifax with 4 goals and 2 assists.
Stat of the Game: Jake Naso won the battle against Jake Withers at the stripe, winning 57% of the faceoffs. Withers was not held below 50% a single time last season.

Philadelphia Wings 19 – Vegas Desert Dogs 10
After going 1-8 at the Wells Fargo Center, the Wings got off a to a hot start on their home floor. Joe Resetarits (3 goals, 7 assists) and Holden Cattoni (1 goal, 9 assists) had 10 points each to lead the Wings.
Adam Poitras and Casey Jackson scored twice each for the Desert Dogs, who dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Stat of the Game: The 9 assists was the most in the career for Cattoni. It was just the 65th time in league history that a player has had 9 or more assists.
Attendance: 6,071
Georgia Swarm 10 – Toronto Rock 9
Like the Rush, the Swarm are also 2-0 on the backs of dramatic victories. Lyle Thompson was the hero this time, scoring with a minute remaining in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Thompson and Andrew Kew both had hat tricks to lead the Swarm, while Chris Boushy and Corey Small combined for 5 of the 9 Toronto goals.
Stat of the Game: The Rock have dropped to 0-3, with a league worst -18 goal differential.
Attendance: 4,570
Calgary Roughnecks 13 – Albany Firewolves 12
Dobbie’s 8 goals were the story of the weekend in one of the greatest individual performances you will ever see in the league.
Tye Kurtz and Ethan Walker had 3 goals and 3 assists each for the Firewolves, who dropped below .500 for the second time this season.
Stat of the Game: Saturday was the 11th time since 2005 that a player has had 8 or more goals in a game.
