Owen Grant was a great National Lacrosse League defender last season, and he was just a rookie. Now, going into his sophomore season, he’s ready to keep improving.
Not only does Owen Grant have the privilege to get to play alongside other young talented guys in the NLL such as Reid Bowering and Brayden Laity, he also has the privilege of learn from some of the best defenders to ever do it in Ryan Dilks, Brett Mydske, and Matt Beers.
Now heading into year two with the Warriors, he and the team will look to take steps forward. The first step is to make playoffs, something a Vancouver franchise has not done in a long time.
In fact the last time a Vancouver team made it to the postseason was 2017, when Corey Small and Rhys Duch led the team to a 9-9 finish and an eventual loss in the Western Semi-Final. But since moving to the lower mainland in 2014, that has been the only playoff appearance for the Stealth / Warriors.
Led by Curt Malawsky now, the Warriors made an improbable run last year, turning a 2-8 record on February 24 into an 8-9 record on April 13th. An eventual loss in the season finale sank the ship in the end, but the people of Vancouver took notice. Opening night attendance was 6000, while the two last games of the year both saw more than 10,000 fill Rogers Arena.
